Tips on Preventing Fires

Did you know that house fires account for the majority of disasters that the Red Cross responds to annually? According to the Red Cross the reason is because risk for home fires exist all year long. Statistics given by the Red Cross also show that seven people die in home fires each day in the U.S which is why one of the goals for the Red Cross is to reduce these deaths by 25% by the end of 2019.

Fire Prevention Tips
- Install working smoke alarms and have fire extinguishers on hand
- Change out overloaded circuit breakers, panel boxes and fuses
- Repair any loose or defective wiring
- Dont overload extension cords
- Inspect wiring in expoused areas that could have been chewed by pet or insects.
- Have your furnace and HVAC checked annually
- Have your fireplace cleaned and checked
- Do not leave kitchen cooking unattended
- Douse grills when done barbequing
- Don't have barbeque grills too close to sides of home
- Store flammables in safe area
- Plan you escape routes and know where the exits are
- Check Natural Gas / LP Gas systems for leaks, faulty pilot lights, gas valves and gas regulators.
